Flagship projects

A walking guide covering the whole of Wales, free to use and built to work when your phone doesn't. It began as a Powys project and grew outwards, which is why the coverage is denser in mid Wales than it is in Pembrokeshire.

Every walk carries distance, ascent, an honest difficulty grade, terrain notes, parking, and whether you'll meet livestock. Where a route has been surveyed on the ground it says so. Where it hasn't, it says that too, and it doesn't invent turn-by-turn directions to fill the space. That decision cost us content and we'd make it again.

The whole thing installs to a phone and works offline, which matters more in Cwm Elan than it does in Cardiff.

The published outcome of a funded research project into the heritage of Powys. Settlements, historic sites, thematic essays, period overviews, written in plain English with the sources named on every article.

The editorial line is that a claim either has evidence behind it or it's a tradition, and readers are entitled to know which. Where the local story and the archaeology disagree, the site says so. That occasionally means contradicting a tourist board.

All of it is licensed CC BY 4.0, so a community council can lift a paragraph for an interpretation panel without asking anyone's permission. Credit is the only condition.
